Game Room Decorating

The game room is a room of excitement and fun. With the new technology age, the traditional family game room is suffering a loss. If you are a traditional type of person and you want to get your family out from in front of the TV and back into the game room, how do you go about doing this? How do you decorate this room so that is fun enough for the whole family? Here are a few ideas to help you in your choices.Bright Colors!
Bright colors represent fun and excitement. No one wants to play in a room that is dark or plain white. Considering the fact that this room is supposed to be fun, think of yellows, light greens, light oranges. Brighter colors will raise the excitement levels in the room. Although light orange is mentioned, painting the entire wall orange could be overwhelming. Use the orange as an accent color instead. Light yellow is favored to produce that sunny bright look.

Wallpaper Border
Find a border that is suitable for your room. If you want this room to be fun and represent excitement, think of parties, celebrations and smiley faces. Wallpaper border will give the walls a livelier look and feel. Remember to place unisex border that will appeal to both sexes.

Designate "Centers"
Section off the room so that the family can move from one section to another in the game room. Designate one section to board games, another section to video games, next for creative games, and so on. Have each section setup with your child's likes and dislikes in mind. Preferably if you have two or more children, find a common interest and build from that.
These centers will provide your children with an opportunity to play what they want when they want. Make sure each center is designed particularly for one child. Example, center A has Timmy's favorite video games, while Center B has Jennie's favorite board games. Adding music also helps create a fun atmosphere for your family room. Place a stereo on a shelf and play happy and fun lyric less music. Lyric less music will encourage the children to sing-a-long with it. Another option is to get a set of kid's sing-a-longs that have children singing to their favorite kid's songs. The aim is to bring your family together into this room and allow them to have fun. Designing it for fun will accomplish this.

Game Room Window Style

Neon signs add a very cool and classy glow to any game room set up one could have. Everyone can have the pool table, the dart board, or arcade games. The thing that sets them apart is the great looking and fascinating neon signs. No room would be complete, no matter how many games and posters are present, without a little colorful lighting.

Neon signs are filled with a neon gas which comes to life in a variety of colors when plugged in. The room will be filled with array of bright vibrant colors from the light. There are so many different colors and shapes to choose from. It can be of a picture or a saying of any choice. There are a lot of companies that will produce custom ordered neon signs for a little extra cost. Depending on what you buy they normally are set at a very low cost to the buyer. The lights are a bit distracting in how bright they are, but why spend money on something that is not vibrant in its self.

Now imagine having a neon lit clock on the wall. You would be able to see the time in bright color in the darkest of rooms. It could be as simple as a store motto on the wall to a full color sculpture. No matter what it is that you like make it stand out to everyone? The first thing they would see walking into the room is the trendy glow coming from the neon.

The first neon light was developed in the 1900's after a lot of try and fail attempts. The cost for these lights back then was outrageous. Today they are very inexpensive to the public. They were originally used by businesses to attract the eyes of customers to the store. They have come a long way, but the basics are still there. Everyone enjoys the perspective that the neon signs give. They give off a very energetic and pleasant glow. It is the ultimate party favor for any kind of party that someone could have.

There are people that put neon signs on their car to give them a very cool and colorful look. Why not do the same for the game room. It is the ultimate way to make any room look fascinating. They are not hard to find. Most places have them because they are the growing in popularity. The internet has millions of online stores that carry tons of different neon products and will even make custom neon signs for anyone willing to add a little bit more money to their order.

Decorating Around Technology

In the past thirty years, I feel like technology has just begun to invade every part of our lives. Granted I’m the first to admit that technology is a great thing, but sometimes it is overwhelming. Every room in the house has a television, including a big screen television in the living room, plus computers in several rooms along with phones and stereo systems scattered throughout the house. There are times when I just want to throw progress out the window and take a break. When I get into those moods, I try to think of options for masking technology in my house. After using some of these ideas, I have found that my home seems more relaxing and less like the Jetson’s home and more like my home.Tackling the televisions is the first line of defense. Televisions, especially the big-screen televisions take up so much space and quickly become the center of attention in any room. My personal favorite option is simply using a classy armoire in order to cover up the television. However, these pieces are bulky and expensive. There are several ways to handle this situation. If you can move the TV to another room if it is better suited in another place and not in this room. For instance if you have a recreation room the larger TV might be more appropriate in that room than in the living room. Then you can have a smaller TV in a smaller cabinet for catching the news or a quick show. Another option is to embrace the larger TV in the room it is in. Change the function of the room to the TV room and make the large screen TV the focal point of the room. No one will doubt the function of the room and you can decorate a comfortable TV watching space.
Although small, telephones are situated in every room of most houses. Many people find it helpful to have phones in each room, but they are generally somewhat unattractive and many times only a few phones in a house are actually used. When buying phones, your best bet is to buy one or two cordless phones along with one phone with a cord (just in case the power goes out) so that you do not have to have a phone station in every room. You can also find phones that will match your decorations. Using black or Grey phones is usually best as they do not attract a lot of dirt and dust.
Yet another alternative, if like me you have several phones on each level of your home, is to inadvertently hide them behind frames or plants or other decorative accessories. You should have access to easily get to the phone but you don't have to look at it all the time.
Like televisions, stereo systems take up a lot of room and are generally ugly. Covering these sets up is often a little more difficult than covering televisions. Your teens may want to reach the stereo easily and you may store it on a shelf with books or other items. Buying an official stereo cabinet or small armoire can offer covering for the stereo but may be rather expensive. You can also purchase a small screen or make a small screen out of picture frames to place in front of the stereo. The solution is attractive, and you may even be able to show off your family rather than the front of a stereo.
Technology has improved our lives in many ways, but allowing it to take over our homes can be depressing and unattractive. Using a little ingenuity will allow you to hide the unsightly items and show off the parts of your home that you love.

Play Room Ideas for Boy and Girl

You have one room, but you have two children who love to play in it. They each have their own tastes and likes, and to make it worst, one is a boy and one is a girl. What do you do? How do you decorate for both and keep both of them happy? It's not a matter or pink and blue anymore. Now that your children have aged some, it's more a matter of who controls what. And if your children aren't trying to control the playroom now, be forewarned, they will!So considering that fact, what must a parent do in order to restore peace in the play room? The best advice is to observe and study both of your children. Although you are the parent and you many known them better than they know themselves, your children may from time to time display certain characteristics that will make your decorating project easy.
For the sake of example, say your daughter, Sally we'll call her, does everything that little girls are supposed to do, but she has a nasty little habit of drawing on her bedroom walls, and the living room walls, and the kitchen walls…get the point? Sally is displaying a very artistic nature. Although she may annoy you with this, if properly channeled, she could be the next Picasso. She wants the room to be a painting and drawing room. Little Johnny on the other hand loves to build things. He has dozens of building blocks to play with. He is a next great architect! He wants the room to be dedicated solely to playing with blocks.
So how do you give them both what they want? First, clean and organize the room from top to bottom. The best way to do this is to purchase plastic storage containers of various sizes… bigger ones for the larger toys and smaller (shoe box size) for the smaller pieces. Take a black permanent marker and label each box according to its owner. Example: Sally's crayons or Johnny's blocks. This way, they will know who owns what and they will know that Mom and Dad know too.
When all toys have been stocked in the appropriate boxes, line them across a vacant wall. Do not stack them higher than your child's height, and do not stock them too heavy. The next thing that you need to do is get out a roll of duct tape or masking tape. Starting with the oldest child, ask him or her which side do they favor. When he or she decides, draw a "tape" line down the middle of the room. You will have one side for your boy and one side for your girl and a space in between as a "neutral zone".
On your son's side arrange his beloved blocks so he will have easy access to them. Make sure that he's got enough room to jump around and release all that boyish energy. On the other hand, for your daughter's side, slide a small table in the corner, facing away from him. Place a container labeled, "Sally's crayons" and "Sally's drawing paper", underneath the table so she will have easy access to it.
The main goal here is to get them on opposite sides of the room, facing away from each other. The less direct contact they have with each other the better. Each one will be wrapped up in his and her own artistic zone. The room has been cleaned, divided and organized. Your son and daughter are playing on his and her designated side. No longer is it a cluttered war zone. It's an organized playroom.

Decorating Tips for Your Front Porch or Sun room

Choosing just the right decor for decorating your front porch or sunroom requires a combination of two things: Style and functionality...
Pillows, upholstery, slipcovers, shades and blinds, lighting, flooring, and rugs all make a sun room or a porch lush and comfortable. What you can use depends on how rigorous the weather is on the furnishings. In a relatively moisture-free hot climate, for instance, sun resistance is the quality you want to look for, but mildew resistance is not essential. In other areas, both sun and moisture (caused by dew at night) can damage the goods. Select products specifically resistant to mold and mildew and ultraviolet rays. Choices abound for products that work well in a protected outdoor environment. Here's some guidance on which are suitable for the outdoors.Shades and Blinds:
Simple matchstick or rattan roll ups can protect furnishings from some rain and sun. Other treatments might include fabulous see-through screens and blinds that block ultraviolet rays while allowing breezes to waft through the space. Shower curtains or simply made fabric curtains are decorative solutions that add privacy as well as beauty. (Bed sheets are an inexpensive alternative to fabric.) Remember, however, if the fabric isn't sun resistant, the curtains will fade over time.

Flooring and Rugs:
Tile, slate, concrete, and weatherproof painted wood are floor choices that require minimal care. Soften the look and the feeling underfoot with natural-fiber rugs, such as sisal or hemp, which by nature resist moisture damage; this type of floor covering works best in sheltered outdoor spaces. Another possibility is indoor-outdoor carpeting, which can be left outside all year long.

Fabrics:
Cushions and pillows with fillings that allow water to drain through them take very little care. Add to this a wide range of new fabrics--acrylics, woven vinyl-coated polyester, laminated cotton that feels like undercoated fabric--and almost anything is possible. Look for these fabrics at tent, awning, or fabric stores, as well as the porch and patio sections of department stores and pool-supply stores. Don't overlook clear plastic to protect some fabrics, and go ahead and use conventional fabrics that catch your fancy if the area is protected. Store pillows when the weather turns foul. Fabrics treated for stain resistance are more expensive but wear better.

Lighting:
Outdoor ground-fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs), built-in lighting, and fans make all the difference for nighttime use of porches and sun rooms. Avoid conventional indoor lighting unless your space is attached to the house. And be kind to your neighbors: be sure lighting does not encroach on their space. (The same goes for any noise you create, such as from a television, radio, or stereo system.) Don't over-light, but do provide adequate transitional lighting from inside to outside, allowing eyes to adjust.

Sun Room Furniture

Choosing Sunroom Furniture
The furniture you furnish your sunroom with will greatly impact the feeling and purpose of your sunroom. If you choose a plushy couch instead of wrought iron furniture, you’re creating a living space where you can relax and retreat from life’s worries.

If you go with a powder-coated patio furniture set complete with chairs and table, you’re creating a space for special occasions — perhaps an area where you enjoy barbeque lunches.Think carefully about what kind of environment you want before choosing sunroom furniture. Here’s a guide to some of your solarium furniture options and a look at what effects they might create.

Living Space Furniture
Who says you can’t move your living room couch or recliner chairs into your solarium? Your sunroom will become more a part of the house itself, while still retaining the aura of a refuge. Remember that you don’t want a cluttered conservatory, so if you do bring a couch in, make sure there’s plenty of room left in the solarium to walk around or to grow your favorite plants.

Patio Furniture
You have endless patio furniture options to choose from. Popular materials for patio furniture include wrought-iron furniture; plantation-grown wood such as teak, balau and jarrah; rattan furniture; wicker furniture; and powder-coated furniture that’s resistant to the elements. Any of these choices will give your sunroom a quaint yet fresh look.

Remember that if you want to spend a lot of time in your sunroom, you’ll have to get patio furniture that’s comfortable to lounge in. Opting for patio furniture will also separate the sunroom more from the other living spaces in your home, making it a refreshing retreat from daily life.

Be creative and spend many happy days in your sunroom!

Wicker is a general term that actually describes any type of furniture or object that is woven from natural organic materials. This includes willow. reed. rattan and bamboo. This special type of furniture made of reeds and vines needs a special type of care and environment. Many choose to accessorize their wicker sunroom furniture with stylish cushions and fabrics. These too must be maintained in order to preserve the look of the furniture.
