Game Room Decorating

The game room is a room of excitement and fun. With the new technology age, the traditional family game room is suffering a loss. If you are a traditional type of person and you want to get your family out from in front of the TV and back into the game room, how do you go about doing this? How do you decorate this room so that is fun enough for the whole family? Here are a few ideas to help you in your choices.Bright Colors!
Bright colors represent fun and excitement. No one wants to play in a room that is dark or plain white. Considering the fact that this room is supposed to be fun, think of yellows, light greens, light oranges. Brighter colors will raise the excitement levels in the room. Although light orange is mentioned, painting the entire wall orange could be overwhelming. Use the orange as an accent color instead. Light yellow is favored to produce that sunny bright look.

Wallpaper Border
Find a border that is suitable for your room. If you want this room to be fun and represent excitement, think of parties, celebrations and smiley faces. Wallpaper border will give the walls a livelier look and feel. Remember to place unisex border that will appeal to both sexes.

Designate "Centers"
Section off the room so that the family can move from one section to another in the game room. Designate one section to board games, another section to video games, next for creative games, and so on. Have each section setup with your child's likes and dislikes in mind. Preferably if you have two or more children, find a common interest and build from that.
These centers will provide your children with an opportunity to play what they want when they want. Make sure each center is designed particularly for one child. Example, center A has Timmy's favorite video games, while Center B has Jennie's favorite board games. Adding music also helps create a fun atmosphere for your family room. Place a stereo on a shelf and play happy and fun lyric less music. Lyric less music will encourage the children to sing-a-long with it. Another option is to get a set of kid's sing-a-longs that have children singing to their favorite kid's songs. The aim is to bring your family together into this room and allow them to have fun. Designing it for fun will accomplish this.

Game Room Window Style

Neon signs add a very cool and classy glow to any game room set up one could have. Everyone can have the pool table, the dart board, or arcade games. The thing that sets them apart is the great looking and fascinating neon signs. No room would be complete, no matter how many games and posters are present, without a little colorful lighting.

Neon signs are filled with a neon gas which comes to life in a variety of colors when plugged in. The room will be filled with array of bright vibrant colors from the light. There are so many different colors and shapes to choose from. It can be of a picture or a saying of any choice. There are a lot of companies that will produce custom ordered neon signs for a little extra cost. Depending on what you buy they normally are set at a very low cost to the buyer. The lights are a bit distracting in how bright they are, but why spend money on something that is not vibrant in its self.

Now imagine having a neon lit clock on the wall. You would be able to see the time in bright color in the darkest of rooms. It could be as simple as a store motto on the wall to a full color sculpture. No matter what it is that you like make it stand out to everyone? The first thing they would see walking into the room is the trendy glow coming from the neon.

The first neon light was developed in the 1900's after a lot of try and fail attempts. The cost for these lights back then was outrageous. Today they are very inexpensive to the public. They were originally used by businesses to attract the eyes of customers to the store. They have come a long way, but the basics are still there. Everyone enjoys the perspective that the neon signs give. They give off a very energetic and pleasant glow. It is the ultimate party favor for any kind of party that someone could have.

There are people that put neon signs on their car to give them a very cool and colorful look. Why not do the same for the game room. It is the ultimate way to make any room look fascinating. They are not hard to find. Most places have them because they are the growing in popularity. The internet has millions of online stores that carry tons of different neon products and will even make custom neon signs for anyone willing to add a little bit more money to their order.

Decorating Around Technology

In the past thirty years, I feel like technology has just begun to invade every part of our lives. Granted I’m the first to admit that technology is a great thing, but sometimes it is overwhelming. Every room in the house has a television, including a big screen television in the living room, plus computers in several rooms along with phones and stereo systems scattered throughout the house. There are times when I just want to throw progress out the window and take a break. When I get into those moods, I try to think of options for masking technology in my house. After using some of these ideas, I have found that my home seems more relaxing and less like the Jetson’s home and more like my home.Tackling the televisions is the first line of defense. Televisions, especially the big-screen televisions take up so much space and quickly become the center of attention in any room. My personal favorite option is simply using a classy armoire in order to cover up the television. However, these pieces are bulky and expensive. There are several ways to handle this situation. If you can move the TV to another room if it is better suited in another place and not in this room. For instance if you have a recreation room the larger TV might be more appropriate in that room than in the living room. Then you can have a smaller TV in a smaller cabinet for catching the news or a quick show. Another option is to embrace the larger TV in the room it is in. Change the function of the room to the TV room and make the large screen TV the focal point of the room. No one will doubt the function of the room and you can decorate a comfortable TV watching space.
Although small, telephones are situated in every room of most houses. Many people find it helpful to have phones in each room, but they are generally somewhat unattractive and many times only a few phones in a house are actually used. When buying phones, your best bet is to buy one or two cordless phones along with one phone with a cord (just in case the power goes out) so that you do not have to have a phone station in every room. You can also find phones that will match your decorations. Using black or Grey phones is usually best as they do not attract a lot of dirt and dust.
Yet another alternative, if like me you have several phones on each level of your home, is to inadvertently hide them behind frames or plants or other decorative accessories. You should have access to easily get to the phone but you don't have to look at it all the time.
Like televisions, stereo systems take up a lot of room and are generally ugly. Covering these sets up is often a little more difficult than covering televisions. Your teens may want to reach the stereo easily and you may store it on a shelf with books or other items. Buying an official stereo cabinet or small armoire can offer covering for the stereo but may be rather expensive. You can also purchase a small screen or make a small screen out of picture frames to place in front of the stereo. The solution is attractive, and you may even be able to show off your family rather than the front of a stereo.
Technology has improved our lives in many ways, but allowing it to take over our homes can be depressing and unattractive. Using a little ingenuity will allow you to hide the unsightly items and show off the parts of your home that you love.

Play Room Ideas for Boy and Girl

You have one room, but you have two children who love to play in it. They each have their own tastes and likes, and to make it worst, one is a boy and one is a girl. What do you do? How do you decorate for both and keep both of them happy? It's not a matter or pink and blue anymore. Now that your children have aged some, it's more a matter of who controls what. And if your children aren't trying to control the playroom now, be forewarned, they will!So considering that fact, what must a parent do in order to restore peace in the play room? The best advice is to observe and study both of your children. Although you are the parent and you many known them better than they know themselves, your children may from time to time display certain characteristics that will make your decorating project easy.
For the sake of example, say your daughter, Sally we'll call her, does everything that little girls are supposed to do, but she has a nasty little habit of drawing on her bedroom walls, and the living room walls, and the kitchen walls…get the point? Sally is displaying a very artistic nature. Although she may annoy you with this, if properly channeled, she could be the next Picasso. She wants the room to be a painting and drawing room. Little Johnny on the other hand loves to build things. He has dozens of building blocks to play with. He is a next great architect! He wants the room to be dedicated solely to playing with blocks.
So how do you give them both what they want? First, clean and organize the room from top to bottom. The best way to do this is to purchase plastic storage containers of various sizes… bigger ones for the larger toys and smaller (shoe box size) for the smaller pieces. Take a black permanent marker and label each box according to its owner. Example: Sally's crayons or Johnny's blocks. This way, they will know who owns what and they will know that Mom and Dad know too.
When all toys have been stocked in the appropriate boxes, line them across a vacant wall. Do not stack them higher than your child's height, and do not stock them too heavy. The next thing that you need to do is get out a roll of duct tape or masking tape. Starting with the oldest child, ask him or her which side do they favor. When he or she decides, draw a "tape" line down the middle of the room. You will have one side for your boy and one side for your girl and a space in between as a "neutral zone".
On your son's side arrange his beloved blocks so he will have easy access to them. Make sure that he's got enough room to jump around and release all that boyish energy. On the other hand, for your daughter's side, slide a small table in the corner, facing away from him. Place a container labeled, "Sally's crayons" and "Sally's drawing paper", underneath the table so she will have easy access to it.
The main goal here is to get them on opposite sides of the room, facing away from each other. The less direct contact they have with each other the better. Each one will be wrapped up in his and her own artistic zone. The room has been cleaned, divided and organized. Your son and daughter are playing on his and her designated side. No longer is it a cluttered war zone. It's an organized playroom.

Decorating Tips for Your Front Porch or Sun room

Choosing just the right decor for decorating your front porch or sunroom requires a combination of two things: Style and functionality...
Pillows, upholstery, slipcovers, shades and blinds, lighting, flooring, and rugs all make a sun room or a porch lush and comfortable. What you can use depends on how rigorous the weather is on the furnishings. In a relatively moisture-free hot climate, for instance, sun resistance is the quality you want to look for, but mildew resistance is not essential. In other areas, both sun and moisture (caused by dew at night) can damage the goods. Select products specifically resistant to mold and mildew and ultraviolet rays. Choices abound for products that work well in a protected outdoor environment. Here's some guidance on which are suitable for the outdoors.Shades and Blinds:
Simple matchstick or rattan roll ups can protect furnishings from some rain and sun. Other treatments might include fabulous see-through screens and blinds that block ultraviolet rays while allowing breezes to waft through the space. Shower curtains or simply made fabric curtains are decorative solutions that add privacy as well as beauty. (Bed sheets are an inexpensive alternative to fabric.) Remember, however, if the fabric isn't sun resistant, the curtains will fade over time.

Flooring and Rugs:
Tile, slate, concrete, and weatherproof painted wood are floor choices that require minimal care. Soften the look and the feeling underfoot with natural-fiber rugs, such as sisal or hemp, which by nature resist moisture damage; this type of floor covering works best in sheltered outdoor spaces. Another possibility is indoor-outdoor carpeting, which can be left outside all year long.

Fabrics:
Cushions and pillows with fillings that allow water to drain through them take very little care. Add to this a wide range of new fabrics--acrylics, woven vinyl-coated polyester, laminated cotton that feels like undercoated fabric--and almost anything is possible. Look for these fabrics at tent, awning, or fabric stores, as well as the porch and patio sections of department stores and pool-supply stores. Don't overlook clear plastic to protect some fabrics, and go ahead and use conventional fabrics that catch your fancy if the area is protected. Store pillows when the weather turns foul. Fabrics treated for stain resistance are more expensive but wear better.

Lighting:
Outdoor ground-fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs), built-in lighting, and fans make all the difference for nighttime use of porches and sun rooms. Avoid conventional indoor lighting unless your space is attached to the house. And be kind to your neighbors: be sure lighting does not encroach on their space. (The same goes for any noise you create, such as from a television, radio, or stereo system.) Don't over-light, but do provide adequate transitional lighting from inside to outside, allowing eyes to adjust.

Choosing Sunroom Furniture
The furniture you furnish your sunroom with will greatly impact the feeling and purpose of your sunroom. If you choose a plushy couch instead of wrought iron furniture, you’re creating a living space where you can relax and retreat from life’s worries.

Be creative and spend many happy days in your sunroom!

Wicker is a general term that actually describes any type of furniture or object that is woven from natural organic materials. This includes willow. reed. rattan and bamboo. This special type of furniture made of reeds and vines needs a special type of care and environment. Many choose to accessorize their wicker sunroom furniture with stylish cushions and fabrics. These too must be maintained in order to preserve the look of the furniture.

Sun Room Window Style

What is the main feature of a sunroom enclosure? The windows, of course. Sunroom windows allow us to bring the outside world into our homes, and like anything else, there are many options. No matter what type of sun room windows you choose, you need to think about the window treatments. There are a variety of options when it comes to sunroom blinds and shades, and some of the differences are a matter of personal preference.

The main reason for having sunroom window treatments is for privacy and for blocking out light at times you don’t want it to shine through.

Choosing sunroom blinds or shades is really a matter of individual preference. Solar shades are one popular idea for sunroom windows, since they allow light to come in while providing some privacy.Screening and tinting are other options to consider for sunroom windows. Screens are nice for allowing air from outside to pass in when there is a nice breeze outside. Tinting is a good option for reducing glare from the sun, but it is permanent so be sure that it is what you want before you get it done.

If you are just now in the planning stages of building a sunroom, purchasing the windows for it can be the most expensive part of the cost of adding a sunroom. However, it is important to select sunroom windows that are of good quality, even though it greatly influences sunroom pricing.
When you install a sunroom in your home. the desire to do so normally comes from the urge to spend time in the sun. but on your own terms. The enclosure allows you to avoid the bugs and pests of the outdoors and to control the environment’s temperature. Tinted or glazed windows will reduce the strength of the sunlight that comes through. and often the majority of the sun’s harmful rays as well. However. they don’t give you as many options for controlling the light that enters the room as sunroom shades do. And after a few weeks or months of enjoying your new sunroom.
you may discover that you would like to be able to control the amount of light that actually enters the room at different points in the day. Just as you have curtains or window treatments on the other windows in your home. you can find ceiling shades. sunroom light control for the skylights in your room. a number of options to create a curtain for sunroom windows. sunroom window blinds or other sunroom window treatment options. These various shades and window treatments will give you the ability to control the light and heat that enters the room exactly to your comfort level and specifications.

How to Decorate Sunrooms And Porches

Attached outdoor spaces that provide total or partial shelter should be considered an extension of the home's interior design. In most cases these areas embrace an entrance or serve to join two interior areas--a breezeway, for example. Traffic patterns figure importantly in overall furniture arrangements, as does the selection of furniture, durable fabrics, and other elements.Document your ideas. Keep a folder full of your inspirations and any ideas you may have. Photograph the area you want to decorate from both inside the house and facing toward it from the outside. Keep clippings of similar spaces and furnishings, shades, and lighting that you like from magazines and product brochures; collect paint color chips and samples of fabric and flooring, too. Don't forget plantings, including window boxes and potted plants, and anything else influencing the design. Consider all the seasons the space is used. Will you want to add curtains to a sun room for insulation come winter so that you can continue to use it longer into the cold weather? Will blinds or curtains add to a porch's comfort by blocking spring and fall winds?
Make a floor plan. Add special features unique to your space, such as notations indicating good and bad views. You will want to arrange furniture to take advantage of a good view or to face away from an ugly one.
Indicate the sun's exposure throughout the day, and note whether it should influence furniture placement. For example, you may need shades for the southern side of a porch, or you may want to group furniture to face fabulous sunsets in the west.
Make furniture templates. Make templates of the furniture you plan to use, as well as of other elements, that require clearance space, such as planters, window boxes, or blinds. Group them on the floor plan; try different configurations to see which is best.
Factor in traffic patterns. Indicate pathways to and from the house. Take into account the swing of each door because you cannot place furniture in those spaces. For sliding glass doors, indicate which side is the entrance.
Arrange furniture so that conversation areas are not interrupted by traffic to and from the house. For instance, a common problem is a porch with a central door and a stepped entrance directly opposite the door. Rather than arranging furniture in one big grouping, create smaller areas at each end of: the porch. Suggestions include a table with chairs on one side and a conversational grouping on the other. A table just outside the door can double as a buffet table. Plot any other traffic aisles, and make sure that you have not blocked passages to the cords for adjusting blinds or for watering plants.

Creating a Beach House Bathroom Decorating

Bring a breath of fresh air to town bathrooms with a breezy beach-house theme, or create a soothing mood inspired by the natural colors and textures of the seashore.
The beach-house bathroom is a foil of gentle contrasts. Clean lines and a restricted color palette create a fresh, uncluttered look. The colors of sun, sea, and sand are naturally an influence. The style is low-key, romantically rustic, and simple. And the way you put the colors together should reflect these qualities.Take the cool blues - deepest marine to palest aqua - for inspiration, and choose from the yellows - vibrant sunshine yellow and sand-gold to cream - to provide a contrast. Using white as a foil, you can blend colors to express quite different moods. Opt for a bright and summery seaside atmosphere with strong color brights - use deckchair stripes on furnishings and tiles. Alternatively, choose the sun-bleached looks of a beach cabin - soft whites, muted blues, light sandy-grays, and pale yellows - and echo the weathered tones of driftwood and pebbles with limed and color-washed wood and stone effects.

Creating the Look

For a fresh, airy, coastal mood, paint walls and ceiling white, or in a pale to mid-tone matte latex. A change of texture - tongue-and-groove paneling or plain tiles - will add interest below wainscoting level. A darker color will "ground" the scheme and suggest sea and sky. Choose strong contrasts such as marine blue and white, or go for a subtle distressed or color-washed finish. Pale colors and close harmonies will create a gentle, ethereal look.
Beach-house style has a period feel but it is easy to integrate modern features. Select a simple bathroom suite in white or cream, or a clean-lined retro-style design. Panel the bathtub to complement the wainscoting area, or with natural or whitewashed pine. Otherwise install a freestanding, curtained bathtub. Site a shower cubicle behind a divider "wall" - this can be tiled on the inside and paneled on the other - or screen the shower area with a marine pattern shower curtain or a plain or striped glass panel. If stripped, limed, or painted floorboards are not available, choose vinyl flooring in a coastal color, or cover existing flooring with wooden decking. Natural fiber matting and cork tiles also work well. Stone tiles, quarry tiles, and mosaics enhance the rustic look - make them warm with cotton rugs.

Bath Room Window Style

Linen and silk will continue to be popular choices due to their simplicity, but 2009 should see some shifts in patterns and colors that are new and refreshing. Pantone designated the bluish Bath Room Window Style"mimosa" hue as the "color of the year."

Mimosa is a great choice for textiles this year as it has the ability to match with almost any other colors while providing a sunny colored frame for your Bath Room Window Style. If you're looking to set the tone of the Bath Room with your window treatments, expect to see an uprising of large scale floral prints. Sound like too much? Patterns that are too overwhelming can be brought down a few notches by hiding them in pleats while still getting the statement that you desire.

If privacy and light control are you two main criteria, you can't go wrong with sheer window treatments. Today's sheers are a big step up from the ones you may be used to and are available in a number of textures and colors with varying degrees of shimmer. Sheers offer a great option for those looking for a simple, almost minimalist, chic effect.

And what would an article about 2009's trends in Bath Room Window Style treatments be without mentioning all the great new technology that is becoming more available and, more importantly, more affordable. Hunter Douglas is leading the industry in motorizing nearly all styles of window shades on the market. Remote controls, light switches, and even the Internet can now be used to open or close blinds and shades. Imagine being able to close the blinds in your Bath Room with your Blackberry while you're hundreds of miles away!

How to Redecorate Your Bathroom

Brightening up your bathroom needn't be a time consuming or expensive business -- with a little imagination and effort you can spruce up the most lackluster of rooms.
If the room leaves a lot to be desired, work according to short- and long-term aims. You will then have the immediate satisfaction of seeing some quick improvements - towels in fresh colors, for instance, or a new bath screen or shower curtain - while you wait for other longer term jobs to be finished, such as a new tiled border or built-in bathroom cabinet.Practicalities
Deal with anything that's even remotely dangerous first: put a non-slip finish on the bathtub base, and provide a mat for ceramic floor tiles that get slippery when wet; install a childproof medicine cabinet if necessary; and if there's room, install a grab rail by the bath.
Once the safety work is completed you can set to work on the irritating inefficiencies: replace the waterproof seal around the bath or basin; stop drips and dribbles by replacing washers or faucets and installing a new shower hose, and consider installing an exhaust fan if condensation is a serious problem. In a small room, rehanging a door with hinges on the other side may make better use of space. With the room in working order, you can set about improving the style and adding color.

Walls
Tiles are the most practical of finishes for bathroom walls, but what if they're in an uninspiring design or color you no longer like? With tiles that are in poor condition, either remove them completely, or cover them with some form of paneling - wooden tongue-and-groove panels for example.
There are two ways to tackle tiles that are sound but unattractive: remove them and put up new tiles, or - much quicker and often just as satisfactory - simply tile over them. A third option, not normally recommended for an area subject to damp but worth considering as a short-term cover-up, is to cover the offending tiled surface with a tile paint. This solves the problem if you are planning a complete overhaul but have other priorities to see to first.
If the tiles are merely dull rather than an eyesore, make them more interesting by adding a tiled border to the existing tiles or, for a low cost facelift, experiment with tile transfers.
If you prefer wallpaper, choose a waterproof vinyl, which copes well with condensation and damp zones. Alternatively, paint is a quick way of freshening up walls - look for a type that's specifically made for bathrooms.

Floors
Carpet tiles are easy to lay and comfortable underfoot - choose a type suitable for the damp conditions in a bathroom. Also worth considering are well-sealed, floor-quality cork tiles and vinyl sheet flooring or tiles.

Ideas for Decorating Kids Bathroom

Do you have a child who is fascinated with underwater life? If so, you're one of the millions of Americans whose child yearns to be in the water. Statistics show that over half of America's population lives more than 100 miles from a large body of water. This is very frustrating for a child who enjoys the ocean. If you are within that group of people who live too far from the ocean the really enjoy it, there is hope!In what room does your child spend the most time? Well besides the obvious bedroom, the room that comes in second is the bathroom. Since he or she spends so much time in there, why not fix it up and make it a fun environment to be in? Here is an idea of a decorating project that is easy and fun to do. You can even get your kid involved in it too! Let's talk about a brilliant way to decorate the kid's bathroom.

Planning
First before doing anything, you must plan out what and how you want to do it. I suggest going to Home Depot or Lowe's and grabbing a decorating idea book. Narrow down your choices to two maybe three options and then consult with your child to see which one he or she likes the best. After all, it is their bathroom that will be decorated. After a final choice is made, pack up the kids and go to a craft store. When at the craft store search for little items that you often find at the beach. For example: Sea shells, starfish, sponges, sand etc. Once you have gathered your supply of sea and beach items, make your way over to a paint store.

Colors
The main colors you need are Baby (or any soft and light) blue, some sea green and some sandy, beige colors. For the bathroom, a regular flat latex paint will work just fine for the job. Next, go over to the wallpaper section and find a suitable border to go around the top of your bathroom ceiling. And next, let your child help you pick out some stencils for you to stencil artworks across the walls. Once you have that, you're done shopping!

Prepping the Room
Now for the actual decorating, it is important, as with all home projects, to take precautionary measures to avoid injury to yourself and the ones helping you. Proper eyewear is needed to help keep the paint out of your eyes. Once you have taken care to protect you and your child from eye injuries, you can get started! First, take down all previous borders, shower curtains and all bathroom accessories. Basically, make sure that everything is out of the bathroom. Once you have all of the knick knacks cleaned out, now it's time to clean the walls. This is very important if you wish for your new paint to adhere to the wall. When adherence is mentioned, it simply means how smooth and flawless the paint is applied.
Your child may gripe about cleaning the walls; most kids do depending on their age. Rests assure, a thorough cleaning takes no longer than twenty minutes.

Painting
Next, you can begin painting! Oh, what fun! This is the best part. Putting two coats on paint on the walls is standard, but you may put as many as four on. Be careful not to put more than four because "peeling" can occur if too much is coated on. Think about what nail polish does. Too many coats results in the polish peeling off. The last thing you would want is to come in one day and find your child peeling the paint off of the walls! With that being said, use moderately.

The Border
After the paint has dried, next comes applying the ocean themed wallpaper border. Adhesive border makes quick application easy. The wallpaper border will help accent the soft blue walls. Application of the border should be fairly easy and it will take little time. Take the green and sand colored paints and paint ocean themed items on the walls with your child. There are two advantages to including your child in this project. 1. Your child's creativity it tickled and he or she feels as though their decisions are important. And 2. Mom and child will bond and grow ever closer.

Adding Accessories
Top off the new decor with a few ocean themed bath accessories and you have yourself a undersea adventure in your child's bathroom. They will love going in the bathroom and spending time there. If the room is big enough, put in a small chair and a basket for a few favorite books. Your child will love this new room! Especially if he or she has had a part in its creation. That is just one of many ideas for decorating a child's bathroom.

Dream Kitchen

I may be the only one, but I could live in a kitchen appliances store. No, I'm not kidding, I would be more than happy to take up residence in a tent between the stoves and the dishwashers, and especially my personal favorite - the refrigerators. So, in the interest of our well-being, I'm going to tell you about some of the best and greatest options out there, then we'll talk about alternatives that we could actually afford. When it comes to appliances, stainless steel is all the rage, and I have to admit I have officially jumped on the bandwagon. The silvery look is clean, sleek, and classy, plus it matches pretty much any decor and resists stains well. The stainless steel, bottom-freezer refrigerator with French doors is by far the best and classiest option on the market. The French doors offer everything we love about side-by-side refrigerators with the convenience of a freezer on bottom, easy on the back when reaching bottom of the refrigerator and ideal for those in wheelchairs; these cost around $2,000 to $3,000. However, if you are set on the side-by-side, you can actually them with flat screen televisions now; ideal for the mom who spends a lot of her time in the kitchen.
Stoves are also amazingly versatile these days. Most people prefer electric stoves; however, gas stoves do offer very even cooking, but the pilot lights are dangerous if you have small children. Electric stoves offer so many options, many with spots for griddles or grills and radiant cook tops. Not having to clean the burner pans is a blessing especially for the busy mom. Other stoves offer a "Sabbath" option allowing you override the automatic shut-off feature (yes, they have that too) so that you can keep food warm as long as you want.
Dishwashers have also come a long way. Some dishwashers have a 24-hour time delay so that you can start dishes while you're at work or at night while you're sleeping. Other dishwashers have an adjustable top shelf that can hang horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. One of my favorite features of new dishwashers is that some them offer three or four shelves allowing you to wash more items at one time without stacking them on top of one another.
So, dreaming of appliances tonight? Well, you can actually purchase similar options for half the price. First, you always want to check for dented, damaged items in stores; some retailers have a separate store just for damaged items. You may actually be able to get some of these dream items for half the price. However, you can also find items that are not name-brand, often made by the same manufacturer, for half the price. Look for alternatives as well; perhaps you can do without French doors or a television on your refrigerator. Be sure to check Consumer Reports for feedback on items. An appliance may look great, but the performance leaves much to be desired; don't spend your money on looks without considering performance. Finally, be patient. If you have the time, shop around; wait for the big sales or visit the damaged goods store each week; you'll eventually find the perfect items for your kitchen.

Kitchen Decorating

The kitchen is a room that is more personal than anything. Decorating a kitchen has more to do with you as the personal decorator than anything else. When considering taking on a kitchen redecorating project, it is important to remember what you like more than what others like. Since you are the one who uses the kitchen most, it can be considered your room. The easiest way to add a little flavor to your kitchen is by adding a fresh new coat of paint to it. But what if you don't like taking on a painting project? That is OK, because there are plenty of other ideas for decorating the kitchen that doesn't involve painting.New Curtains
This is a simple and cost effective method for decorating. Buy new curtains! Curtains can bring out the personality of your kitchen with little effort. If you have a country style kitchen, a few country cooking themed curtains will be sufficed when decorating with new curtains. When someone walks into your kitchen, they will automatically recognize the country flavor of your kitchen.

New Accessories
Every kitchen could do well with new fresh accessories. After a while your old accessories tend to get old and tiresome. New accessories like paper towel racks, bread boxes, salt and pepper shakers and jars can make your kitchen look brand new. And along with these new accessories, if your budget permits, purchase a new kitchen electronics that will go along with your new theme. Instead of a plain white coffee maker, go for a new red coffee maker to accent the red apples in the country themed curtains. Be creative and add a personal touch.

Make Your Own Accessories
If you are the crafty artsy type then you could make your own kitchen accessories. Places like Michael or any other craft store will have several unfinished kitchen items that you can purchase and decorate them yourself. For instance, you could buy an unfinished bread box and custom design it to your favorite theme. The bread box when finished will be an evident testimonial of your creative abilities. Doing so with your entire kitchen collection will further add that personal touch that every kitchen deserves.
Your kitchen is the source in which your family is fed and nurtured. Adding your personality to your kitchen's personality will create memories for your and your family. The kitchen as opposed to the other room in your home is the easiest to decorate. It doesn't take a lot of money or a lot of time. But it does require a lot of you! You make the difference when a kitchen is being decorated. You decide whether or not the kitchen will be just great or whether it will be absolutely fabulous.

There's more to home lighting than a central ceiling fixture backed up by a couple of wall or table lamps. A well-planned lighting scheme should be both practical and decorative.
On the practical side, the right sort of lighting provides illumination for cooking, cleaning, sewing, reading, and many other day-to-day tasks. Decorative lighting helps to create a relaxed atmosphere, and should complement your color scheme and furnishings. A successful home lighting scheme is made up of several different elements. Most rooms will need a carefully thought-out mixture of these effects to work well.
Lighting Choices
General lighting provides overall or background light and should be used in every room. A hanging ceiling light is a common type of light fitting, offering a variety of shade styles in materials as diverse as fabric, paper, or metal. A ceiling pendant that is the sole source of light in a room is a limiting choice; it provides a bright central space with shadowy edges.
Recessed or semi-recessed low voltage down lights spaced across the ceiling will give a good level of clear light. Depending on the type of bulb used, and the housing, a recessed down light can spread light over a wide area or in a narrow beam. Semi-recessed down lights (sometimes called eyeballs) can be swivelled.
Controlling down lights with a dimmer system is a good idea because you can then have some of the lights off while others are on, and can vary brightness.
Task lighting is designed to give concentrated, directional light over a small area and may be used in conjunction with general and accent fixtures. The type of task lighting you choose depends on the activity you have in mind.
A desk light with a flexible arm is the perfect example, as it can be adjusted to provide light exactly where it is needed.
A reading lamp should be tall enough to shine onto the pages of the book, but not into your eyes. A floor lamp positioned behind the reader is ideal.
Light for writing, sewing, or any other hobby should be positioned so that it shines down onto the work. Rise and fall pendants are useful for this, especially if you work at the dining table. Recessed strip lighting is useful for providing countertop light in a kitchen. Accent lighting is used to show off plants, pictures, collections, and interesting architectural features. There are many different types, which can be used to light objects from above, below or behind, or at an angle.
A narrow beam halogen down light may be used to light a single vase or piece of china. The lower part of the object remains in shade, so this gives a dramatic floating effect.
Pictures are often lit from above. An adjustable eyeball or ceiling spotlight focused on the picture, or a special framing spotlight, which will flood the painting with light but leave the walls around it in shadow, are worth considering, as well as the traditional brass picture light.
A table lamp with a wide based shade will throw a pool of light onto the surface below it and is an attractive way to light a small collection or some framed photographs.
Floor standing drum torchieres can be positioned below large plants to create dramatic leaf patterns on the walls and ceiling. You can light objects on glass shelves very effectively by positioning a row of small halogen spotlights below the bottom shelf. Wall-mounted sconces, wallwashers, or tall floor lamp-style designs will illuminate the detail on an interesting cornice or ceiling.
Small floor torchieres positioned behind a sofa or armchair will wash the walls with light and make the room seem larger.

Tips for Your Front Porch or Sun room

Choosing just the right decor for decorating your front porch or sunroom requires a combination of two things: Style and functionality...
Pillows, upholstery, slipcovers, shades and blinds, lighting, flooring, and rugs all make a sunroom or a porch lush and comfortable. Here's some guidance on which are suitable for the outdoors.
Shades and Blinds:
Simple matchstick or rattan rollups can protect furnishings from some rain and sun.
Add to this a wide range of new fabrics--acrylics, woven vinyl-coated polyester, laminated cotton that feels like uncoated fabric--and almost anything is possible.
Lighting:
Outdoor ground-fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs), built-in lighting, and fans make all the difference for nighttime use of porches and sunrooms.

Decorating for the Spacey Loving Teen

If you have a teen who is fascinated with the planets and stars, how do you create a room that appeals to his love of the heavens? Creating a room that appeals to your teens can be accomplished with as little as a gallon of paint, a few stencils and a few packs of glow in the dark stars. Let's see how.First in order to achieve that brilliant space theme you should find a reliable source for space themed room decorations. I suggest The Space Store. The Space Store is an online merchant store that specializes in selling space items for the bedroom and bathroom. Of course there are several other online merchants to choose from. Once you've chosen your supplier, now make a plan of how you will decorate his room. Having a basic list of items that you will need is a great start.
Comforter Set-Having a space and planet themed comforter set will make your teen feel as though he is sleeping in space every night. Matching curtains is encouraged though if you cannot find matching curtains, then simple black or silver curtains will do fine.
Paint-Depending on the size of your teen's room, you could probably get by on one or two gallons of black paint. Yes! Black paint. It is a very bold color but if properly accented with silver or grey it will create a stunning backdrop for this new intergalactic room. You will also need smaller containers of silver paint. The silver is for the trim and the stars. You may also opt to purchase several smaller paints to paint details in the planets (ex. Saturn, Jupiter, Mars)
Planetary Stencils-These are for stenciling the walls. Once the walls are painted in black and silver, carefully stencil the cylindrical shapes of the planets on the walls. It is a good idea to purchase an astronomy magazine and find a picture of our galaxy (The Milky Way Galaxy) and paint it in the center of one of the walls and another mural of planets on the other. After you are done with the wall painting and picture painting, tape or glue the glow in the dark stars on the ceiling and all over the room. No exact pattern is necessary unless you are familiar with star maps and constellations. Then you can map out the solar system on your teen's walls.
The object is apparent. To achieve the space theme that will leave your teen awe-struck. With a little advanced preparation, creativity, imagination, and hard work, you can achieve this decorating goal.

Decorating for the Teenage Girl

This may be one of the hardest tasks to perform. The teens style and likes and dislikes changes frequently. One month she could like the hottest boy pop band and the next she hates them. Decorating a teen's room to the point that she is happy with it is difficult indeed. But here are a few ideas to help you along in the task.First, remember that your daughter is a part of you. She will have some of the same tendencies that you once had as a tender teenage girl. So stop for a minute and think back to when you where a teen. Think of some of the things that you liked and disliked. It may surprise you that she may very well like some of the same things as you.
Second, make a list of the items and ideas that you know she loves. For example, your daughter has always loved going to the beach because she enjoys the beach scene and all the animals that are associated with the beach. And you know she will never object to a creatively decorated room with a theme that she loves. So now, you have your basis for beginning your project.

Comforter Sets
Keep these to solid colors. Sometimes young women can switch from one style to another. So get a comforter set that is in her favorite color and let that be the focal point of the room. Everything else should flow around the bedding. The reason for this is a majority of teen girls spend numerous hours sitting on or laying in bed. Make this (the bed) be the piece that the room revolves around.

Walls and Curtains
Make sure you paint the walls with light and happy colors. Taking into mind the teenage girl's emotional makeup, painting the room with light cheerful colors promotes good emotional health. As opposed to darker colors which can depress. Hang curtains or blinds that accent the main focal piece of the room. Whatever color you chose for the comforter and bedding set, accent it with the curtains and/or blinds.

Accessories
No room is complete without bedroom accessories. These include book cases, TV stands, electronics, etc. Leave this part up to her. She should feel as though she had some say in the designing of the room. The hard part is over. The key to decorating a room that your teen girl will love lies in understanding who she is and acting on that knowledge.

New Young Girl, Boy Bedroom

Is your modern young boy girl bedrooms an inviting oasis of relaxation? Or does it look more like a storage unit, a veritable wasteland of clutter, dirty clothes, dirty dishes and kid's toys.

If your room is the latter and you're finding it increasingly more difficult to find the bed when it's time for bed, you may want to consider giving your bedroom a well-deserved makeover. With just a few changes, some hard decision making and some tough love, you can transform you bedroom into everything you ever dreamed it should be. And it's easier than you think.

Start with the basic

First, your bedroom is not a storage facility. If things in the room do not contribute to relaxation, enhance the beauty, add space or provide some entertainment, get rid of it. Pack it up, move it to another room or put it in the garage or trash. If you like to watch a little television before calling it a night, consider getting an armoire to hide it away when it's not in use.

If you're an avid reader, make sure your nightstands have a drawer so you can put your book or magazine away, along with your glasses. If you love the latest fashions, add more dressers, wardrobes and a closet organizer to the room. Finally, get a hamper for the dirty clothes so you're not tempted to leave them wherever they fall. As they say, "A place for everything, and everything in its place."

Add furniture to the mix

Now that your room is clear of clutter, it's time to add beauty and charm to the space. Start by looking at your furnishings. Do they have the same style or at least complement one another? Are there pieces that should be moved out to make way for others? Does the style of your furniture match your tastes.

Arranging Young Boy,Girl Bedroom

Have you ever rearranged your room and six months later had to rearrange it again? It is not surprise if you are one of those types of people who like change every so often. It is in our makeup as humans to desire change in our surrounding environment as well as our world as a whole. There’s not much we can do about the world as a whole, but there is something that we can do regarding a smart part of that world, namely our home. And more specifically, our bedrooms.
Our bedrooms are neglected, we must admit, and occasionally we need to change the way it looks, feels, smells, the whole works! But what if you don’t have the time or the money to devote to redo your bedroom? Well, here are some helpful ideas to help you redecorate your bedroom quickly and affordably.

Start With a Fresh Coat of Paint

Changing the colors of your bedroom walls really makes a difference. Especially if you change from a dull white to vibrant splashes of yellows and/or oranges. Painting the walls a different color can very well change the whole mood of the room as well. Your room will breathe and seem more spacious with warmer brighter colors.

Change the Linens and Curtain Sets

Changing the linens is another way to quickly change the look of your room. If your comforter set is too plain, change it to a more vibrant and bold look. There are many online merchants that sell discount comforter sets that include the comforter, the fitted sheets the top sheet and skirts. These are called beds.-in-a-bag and they are very cost effective for the prudent shopper. Changing the comforter sets can give you the renewed sense of pride in your bedroom. If your bed is the focal point of your room, then choosing the right comforter set is imperative!

Young Boy Girl Room Window Style

The family had lived in the rundown rental house for almost three years when someone first saw a child's face in the Young Boy Girl Room Window.A little girl, pale, with dark eyes, lifted a dirty blanket above the broken glass and peered out, one neighbor remembered.

Everyone knew a woman lived in the house with her boyfriend and two adult sons. But they had never seen a child there, had never noticed anyone playing in the overgrown yard. The girl looked young, 5 or 6, and thin. Too thin. Her cheeks seemed sunken; her eyes were lost.

The child stared into the square of sunlight, then slipped away.

Months went by. The face never reappeared.Just before noon on July 13, 2005, a Plant City police car pulled up outside that shattered window. Two officers went into the house — and one stumbled back out.

Clutching his stomach, the rookie retched in the weeds.

Plant City Detective Mark Holste had been on the force for 18 years when he and his young partner were sent to the house on Old Sydney Road to stand by during a child abuse investigation. Someone had finally called the police. They found a car parked outside. The driver's door was open and a woman was slumped over in her seat, sobbing. She was an investigator for the Florida Department of Children and Families.

"Unbelievable," she told Holste. "The worst I've ever seen."

The police officers walked through the front door, into a cramped living room."I've been in rooms with bodies rotting there for a week and it never stunk that bad," Holste said later. "There's just no way to describe it. Urine and feces — dog, cat and human excrement — smeared on the walls, mashed into the carpet. Everything dank and rotting."

Tattered curtains, yellow with cigarette smoke, dangling from bent metal rods. Cardboard and old comforters stuffed into broken, grimy windows. Trash blanketing the stained couch, the sticky counters. The floor, walls, even the ceiling seemed to sway beneath legions of scuttling roaches.

"It sounded like you were walking on eggshells. You couldn't take a step without crunching German cockroaches," the detective said. "They were in the lights, in the furniture. Even inside the freezer. The freezer!"While Holste looked around, a stout woman in a faded housecoat demanded to know what was going on. Yes, she lived there. Yes, those were her two sons in the living room. Her daughter? Well, yes, she had a daughter . . .

The detective strode past her, down a narrow hall. He turned the handle on a door, which opened into a space the size of a walk-in closet. He squinted in the dark.

Turn Your Bedroom into a Football Shrine

Everybody's got one in the family. That one family member who doesn't just love football, they practically worship it. They've got their favorite NFL team, and they follow it religiously. They know every player's name, number, position and stats. They're glued to the TV every time a game comes on, and they go to great efforts to hit all the home and road games they can. They live for the Super Bowl.
No matter who your football fanatic is – son, daughter or spouse – you can help them display their team spirit by creating an NFL football theme bedroom.First Down: the walls
You have a number of options with the walls. You can paint them the colors of your fan's favorite team and add a team border. Consider using NFL team logo wallpaper on all walls or just on one. If you were feeling particularly artistic, you could even paint a football mural on one wall.
Another option is to utilize sports memorabilia in your decorating. You hang a team jersey as the centerpiece and add game tickets, pennants, autographs and pictures around it. For creative flair with less work, consider a poster collage featuring your favorite players. The options are really limitless.

Second Down: the bed

In bedrooms, the bed is, obviously, the centerpiece. Fortunately, it's pretty easy to find NFL bedding in all sizes. You can find a wide array of NFL bedding available, which makes it easy to decorate no matter which team your football fan is rooting for. Spruce up the bed more by adding football pillows. If you really want to get creative, use goal posts for the headboard.

Third Down: accessories
Adding accessories doesn't have to be daunting. You can find NFL logo rugs or football rugs for the floor, or football lamps, picture frames or player posters. If there's a bathroom, you can even decorate there by adding an NFL team logo shower curtain and trash can.

Touchdown: Give your family fanatic a fun football room
Football is one of the most popular sports in America. Help your family fans show their team spirit by giving their bedroom an NFL facelift.

Having a basic list of items that you will need is a great start.Comforter Set-Having a space and planet themed comforter set will make your teen feel as though he is sleeping in space every night. Matching curtains is encouraged though if you cannot find matching curtains, then simple black or silver curtains will do fine.Paint-Depending on the size of your teen's room, you could probably get by on one or two gallons of black paint. Saturn, Jupiter, Mars)Planetary Stencils-These are for stenciling the walls.

It may surprise you that she may very well like some of the same things as you.Second, make a list of the items and ideas that you know she loves. For example, your daughter has always loved going to the beach because she enjoys the beach scene and all the animals that are associated with the beach. And you know she will never object to a creatively decorated room with a theme that she loves. So now, you have your basis for beginning your project.Comforter SetsKeep these to solid colors. Sometimes young women can switch from one style to another. So get a comforter set that is in her favorite color and let that be the focal point of the room. Everything else should flow around the bedding. The reason for this is a majority of teen girls spend numerous hours sitting on or laying in bed. Make this (the bed) be the piece that the room revolves around.Walls and CurtainsMake sure you paint the walls with light and happy colors. Taking into mind the teenage girl's emotional makeup, painting the room with light cheerful colors promotes good emotional health. As opposed to darker colors which can depress. Hang curtains or blinds that accent the main focal piece of the room. Whatever color you chose for the comforter and bedding set, accent it with the curtains and/or blinds.AccessoriesNo room is complete without bedroom accessories.
